Knanaya night and seminar
Chicago KCWF has completed two big events recently. On Nov 7th we did a half-hour show named "Elsamma Enna Pennkutty" for the Knanaya Night 2015. It consisted of variety programs such as dances, skit, and Vanitha shingarimelam. Almost 65 participants were in this program. The essential message of this program was to encourage the women to be independent, to strive hard and to "help themselves" when they are faced with challenges. We would like to thank all participants in this program and hope it was a memorable event for you!
The next day Nov 8th, Chicago KCWF facilitated the BCM College Alumni meeting at the KCS Community Center and Prof. Sheela Stephen presided the meeting. She talked about the significance of the BCM College in the prosperity of Knanaya community. She remembered the women who completed their education in BCM and St. Stephen's Colleges and supported their families in the early 70s, 80s and 90s, which resulted in massive migration of our community members to Western Countries including USA, England and Australia. Many students and faculty of BCM also shared their experience in BCM college. We thank our board members Josmy Edukutharayil and Tessy Njaravellil for coordinating this event.
This was followed by a Seminar by Prof Sheela Stephen for the couples, "Thirayum Theeravum." Prof Sheela Stephen encouraged the couples to try to communicate with each other better and to lead a life based on Christian principles and to be role models to their children as the children are watching everything the adults do. She encouraged the couples to pray for each other and for our future generation. She encouraged the couples to listen to their "inner self'" when faced with peer pressure and challenges.
On the same day, Chicago KCWF also conducted a class for the parents to increase the awareness of the problem of Underage drinking among the teenagers. Dr Agimol Puthenpurayil led the class. She gave tips for the parents to communicate with the children. She also gave safety tips to follow and what to do when the kids are under peer pressure. The class was very informative and we thank Dr Agimol in leading the class. The parents also took home an informative brochure prepared by Mrs. Sheeba Mutholam on this topic for this KCWFNA initiative of increasing the awareness of Underage drinking.
Women's Forum is extremely grateful to all of our sponsors who made these events a reality!!

Cancer awareness at KCS Picnic - June 23rd, 2013
Dear All
Breast cancer touches the lives of everyone from every background and in every community across our Nation, including our knanaya community. Though we have made great strides in combating this devastating illness, more than 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and tens of thousands are expected to lose their lives to the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget
to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. With the theme of Breast cancer awareness KCS Women’s Forum will be conducting a play for life tournament on June 23rd with the KCS Picnic starting at 1200 noon.
There will be a throw ball tournament for Ladies and a Kapadi tournament for the Guys. Everyone who registers to play will pay $5 and the money collected will be donated to American cancer society for cancer research and better treatments. We request all of you to come and support us, register to play in a team or sponsor someone to play.
Remember to PLAY if you CARE, more people play more lives can be saved
from this tragic disease. Women's Forum will also have other activities such as cotton candy, ice cream, t-shirt sales and educational handouts for ladies on breast cancer awareness. So please come by for a day of family fun for a Noble cause.
Thank you

Charity Baby Shower Drive - April 7th, 2013 (Sunday)
KCS Chicago Women’s forum is hosting a charity Baby Shower drive on Sunday April 7th from 3pm-7pm at the community center.
It will be an evening filled with fun games, and food (donated by Usmania and Tava Restaurants) for a good cause. Baby items collected will be donated to the less fortunate Women and their babies at the Women's center Chicago, an organization run by Volunteers and Charity. Their purpose is to reach desperate young women with a message of hope and help. Many young ladies and families are tempted to use abortion to solve the problem of an unexpected pregnancy--resulting in greater long term physical, emotional, and spiritual damage to the participants, as well as the death of the unborn child. At the Women's Center, they counsel mothers from abortion and help them with their pregnancy, delivery and care of mother and child after birth. Here is there website if you would like more information: http://www.womens-center.org/.
Items they are in need are Diapers sizes Newborn, 1 & 5, outfits, sleepers, onesies (sizes newborn to 12 months for boys & girls) receiving blankets, bibs, baby bath wash & shampoo, towels & washcloths, and baby wipes. They also accept used
items in good condition , Maternity clothing, clothing for mom (average age is 22yrs. old), clothing for children up to size 12, infant car seats, infant strollers, fixed-side cribs, bouncers, pack ‘n play. We invite all knanaya Women to come and support this event, and to donate items if you are not able to attend.

KCS Womens Forum General Body Meeting - Dec 21, 2012
Hello all,
The term for Chicago KCS WF team consisting of Gracy Vachachira, Lizzy Thottapuram, Prathibha Thachet, Mercy Thirunelliparambil and Della Nediakalayil is almost over. It was a pleasure to serve our community for the last 2 years. We were able to achieve many goals during this term. We had a Holiday Party, computer class, seminar with Dr. Baumann, seminar with Dr. Tom (psychologist). We were able to do a fund raising program and use the money for charity work. The money was donated to poor families in India to help them to meet the wedding expenses of their daughters and build an altar in a remote church. We chaired 3 committees for the KCCNA convention and we had a combined program (with KCJL, KCYL, and WF) for the Knanaya night 2012. We highly appreciate all your co-operation in making these events a huge success.
Now it is time to hand over the leadership to a new team. Anyone who is interested to be part of the new WF team please contact one of us. There will be a general body meeting on 12/21/12 at 7 pm at the community center.
Thank you,
Prathibha Thachet
