Chicago Yuvajanavedhi heading to Mackinac Island, MI on May 18th!
Dear Yuvajanavedhi
I hope you are all excited and ready for our trip, its only 3 days away! In this e-mail I Just want to give you a short synopsis and a look at our itinerary for the trip.
The itinerary is as follows:
7 hour drive to Mackinac Island
Exclusive Mackinac Island catamarans. "Catch the Cat" for the newest, smoothest, quietest, fastest ferry ride across the Straits of Mackinac. Average crossing takes 15 minutes.Breathtaking views. Savor the beauty of the straits — the mighty Mackinac Bridge, Upper and Lower Peninsula shorelines, Round Island Lighthouse and Mackinac Island Harbor. Don't forget your camera!
Mackinac Island Carriage Tours is the oldest and largest horse and buggy livery in the world and the official tour of Mackinac State Park. Enjoy the narrated tour through downtown to Surrey Hills where you will disembark the two horse hitch to enjoy the carriage museum and or Wings of Mackinac Butterfly Conservatory. Then it is onto a three hitch carriage (you’ll need one more horsepower…) and off to Arch Rock and through the Boreal forest. During your 5-10 min stop, see a natural limestone formation that spans 50 feet and rises 149 feet above the clear blue water of the straits of Mackinac. This is one of the most photographed spots on the island. So, climb aboard, sit back and relax and just enjoy the ride
Grand Hotel Buffet Lunch- Every year since 1887, Grand Hotel has welcomed countless guests and families to Mackinac Island, where bikes and horse drawn carriages are the favored modes of transportation. As Travel + Leisure’s 500 World’s Best Hotels and Conde Nast Traveler's Top 5 Midwest Resorts, Grand Hotel offers outstanding accommodations where no two guest rooms are alike. Enjoy spectacular views of the Straits of Mackinac in a rocking chair on the world’s longest porch.
Fort Mackinac- Inside the stately stone walls it’s a different time. The cannon blasts, the rifles fire, the soldiers march and history comes alive. The oldest building in Michigan and 13 other historical structures boast exhibits explaining everything from military training and battles to medical treatments to family life within the fort. More than just a military outpost, Fort Mackinac served as a home for soldiers and their families and eventually the headquarters for Mackinac National Park, where tourists to the island visited the great fortress on the bluff, much like they do today.
Bridge Excursion, cruise under the Mighty Mackinac Bridge
That will conclude our trip and we will be heading back home. And i don't have to remind you that we have fun games on board whenever we go somewhere!
Hope the details are pretty much clear now. Any additional money will be used for the transportation expenses. Please give the $100 fee to any executive members as soon as possible. It is going to be a great trip. You wouldn't want to miss it. Also, remember, its on a 1st come 1st serve basis.
Thank you! Sincerely,
Sibil Thomas Elavumkal

YOUVAJANAVEDI's Official Statement - 02/28/2013
Keeping Knanaya Traditions Alive!
Knanayites are the descendants of a group of Jewish Christians who migrated from Syria to Kerala in AD 345 with the leadership of Thomman Kinai. Knanaya people have their own unique culture, identity, traditions, unity and faith. In 1911 august 29, Pope Pius x established kottayam vicariate exclusively for ‘thekkum bhagar’ and since this community has been working together to preserve their distinct culture, identity and traditions. Our forefathers, priests, and others inspired and motivated their children to follow our unique culture, traditions and rituals without fail.
I am proud to be a Knanaya member because of various reasons. Only those who are born from Knanaya parents can say that we are knanayites .The unique feature of Knanaya community is its endogamy. It is the practice of marrying one from the Knanaya community. Since the establishment of our community we have been very particular to preserve our culture, traditions, identity and religious rituals and to transfer them from generations to generation. Endogamy is the foundation of our existence as a unique community. Our traditions, culture and identity increase our religious attitudes and developed a spiritual awakening in our outlook.
Why do we stick on to these values even now? The answer is simple. We are true Christians growing in spirituality. We always work for the faith and unity of our community. The educational progress, spiritual development and economic stability paved the way for the all-round growth of the community. The fireless hard work of our people and their unity accelerated the tremendous growth of the spiritual sphere. The new parishes, mission centers, hospitals, educational institutions and other charitable organizations helped the overall development of our community. By promoting our unique aspects, we could establish a prominent place among the other rites also. The reward less and painful attempts and creative thinking of our fore fathers encouraged the members to preserve the unity, identity and culture of our community. The Knanaya community is a boom and inspiration for the Syro Malabar rite in all aspects. Hence it is inevitable to preserve the features forever.
In India as well as around the world allowing non Knanaya people to be member of the church will have a negative effect in the unity among the fellow knanayites. We want our churches in America to be free like the ones in Kerala. Also we would like to pass on the same traditions, culture and unique identity to the future generations without affecting its virtues.
Therefore Chicago Yuvajanavedhi would like to state that we are ready to stand with the KCS of Chicago and KCCNA through all the activities toward keeping our churches to be our own.. You can look forward in meeting us in the peaceful Demonstration near the headquarters of Chicago Syro Malabar Diocese on March 3rd.
Yours Sincerely,

To my dear Yuvajanavedhi members,
Yuvajanavedhi is an association of youth members of The Knanaya Catholic Society of Chicago. We have a duty to practice our Knanaya traditions and to transfer it to the coming generation without losing its virtues. As you know, now is a crucial period our community is going through to preserve our endogamy and keep our churches as 'Knanaya churches.' Thus I hope that you all understand how important is it for us to join our hands together and stand along with the KCS and KCCNA during the peaceful demonstration on March 3rd near the headquarters of Chicago Syro Malabar Church. With the hope to carry on our traditions forever, I ask each one of you to join us from St. Mary's Knanaya Catholic Church(preferably) or Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Church at 12.00pm on March 3rd. Buses will be provided.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
Sibil Thomas Elavumkal

Youvajanavedi Leadership Camp - November 12th, 2011
The Yuvajanavedhi of Chicago would like to invite all the youth who are born and raised in Kerala to the Global Catholic Youth Seminar and Conference 2011. It will be held on November 12th starting from morning 8.30am to 9pm night at our Community Center. Since many of us are from KCYL or Mission League in India, most of you must be familiar with ‘Chaithanya’ Camps in Kottayam. It will be very much similar to that. We will be mainly focusing on our Youth’s Leadership Skills and involvement of the youth in our Knanaya Community today. There will be a fee of $30 for the whole program. On the same day, there will be a Global Phone Conference with all the KCYL/ Yuvajanavedhi Executives around the World. We’ll be discussing about the Knanaya youth’s programs and our future plans for our community worldwide. There will be a discussion time with our Ex- KCYL Leaders of Kottayam Arch-Diocese towards the end of the meeting. For this program, we need all the Knanaya youth’s involvement and the Knanaya Community’s support and prayers.
