KCYL Basketball Tournament - May 26th, 2014
On May 26th 2014, the KCYL board hosted a basketball tournament at the Accelerated Center in Northbrook, IL. The day consisted of a double elimination tournament that started at 9am and went till 7:30 pm. Thanks to our sponsors, Cyriac Koovakkatiil and Binu Poothurayil, the KCYL board was able to present a successful tournament. The tournament ranged from kids who were in high school to young adults. Food and drinks were being sold as well as complementary Subway sandwiches for the players. KCYL also raised money to send to a local cancer research center.
In a very close game, Roshan Muringothu, Alvin Nella, Michael Vettathukandathil, Xaiver Mannappil,Shawn Mathilparambil, Patrick Nedumackal,Justin Nella, TJ Ellampally, Jason Assarikutt and Shony Poozhykunnel won first place in the tournament. In second place was Shane Nediyakalayil, Rino Muringothu, Sabin Thomas, Justin Abraham, Arun Joseph, Samson Cherukara, Jeremy Joseph, and Joel Chollampel.
The first place trophy was presented by KCS president, Mr. George Thottappuram, honorary guest, KCYLNA president, Abbey Thachet, and KCYL president, Matthew Pathyil. Thank you for all the players for participating and a big thanks to our sponsors for helping to make such a successful event happen.
In this past year KCYL has conducted programs such as Game Night & Sky High. Game Night was a successful event where KCYL sponsored a game night for all ages. Participants from Kids Club, KCJL, and KCYL were all present. A meeting was held at the same time evaluating convention ideas. The kids got the chance to color, make beaded jewelry, play musical chairs, candy picking, and play Taboo. A very fun night for the kids as well as for KCYL members who got time to spend with the young children of our community. Ski High was a trampoline venue where KCYL members had a blast using the facility to it’s fullest.
Convention is around the corner and Battle of the Cities preparation is near. Please keep an eye out on Facebook and emails for further details. If you haven’t already, contact one of the board members to receive contact information via phone, email, or Facebook.
Sincerely,
For KCYL Chicago

Dear Parents and KCYL members,
As we all know convention is coming up and it's going to come by fast! Discussions on how to coordinate this years Chicago convention and how to make it an enjoyable time for everyone has already begun. However, KCYLNA and the Chicago KCYL local board would like to reach out your children and ask for their help. We are looking for volunteers to help the KCYL local board and the KCYLNA national board to create further ideas and plans for the upcoming convention. We would like to get more youth involved to help out planning an unforgettable convention.
Parents if you can encourage your child to help out with convention to make it the best convention of all time it would be very well appreciated.
For further questions or to volunteer, please call or email a Chicago KCYL board member.

KCYL Write up on Summer Events 2013
The beautiful Chicago summer has unfortunately come to an end but we hope that our KCYL members had fun at our summer events: Six Flags Great America and Beach BBQ! Six Flags was taken place on July 24th on a chill, sunny Chicago summer day. A group of around 35 of our youth came out to enjoy the thrills of roller coasters and to end the night off with some traditional funnel cake. Six Flags seems to be a tradition for KCYL to do every summer, so look forward to another one next summer! KCYL's Beach BBQ was recently taken place on August 12th. Though the usual Chicago sunny weather didn't corporate with us, personally, I can say that the 30 youth that attended had a blast! We had some great BBQ, played beach volleyball, football, a revised version of the Hindu festival Holi, and Kerala's very own Khabdi! The rain didn't stop us from having a great time. On behalf of the KCYL board, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for coming out to these events. The KCYL board wants our youth to have a fun time and in order to do that, we need the help and support from our youth! With school about to start, KCYL will do it's best to create events throughout breaks but definitely keep your eye open for a Ski trip this winter! Good luck to all the incoming college freshman and to all other students; may God bless us all with the strength and courage to heighten our education. *Note: Not everyone made it into the picture during the event, we apologize for the inconvenience*

K C Y L N A YOUTH CONVENTION 2013 - Aug 8th-13th, 2013
We the KCYLNA executive board are pleased to inform you that for the first time in 10 years, KCYLNA will be hosting a YOUTH CONVENTION for the 18 -25 year age group. This event will take place in the exuberant and sunny city of HOUSTON, TEXAS!Aside from family convention, events directed to this age group and their particular interests have been fairly slim. As the future of this community, we want the older youth to get the chance to regain the spark and interest they had in community events. We hope that this youth convention, surely, will keep our youth in the loop and rekindle a sense of Knanaya pride in them, because after all K-N-A is our D-N-A!We have planned for this to be a unique event for the Knanaya Catholic youth within this age group to get together, enjoy each other’s company, and meet new peers from all over North America. We have organized a fun weekend filled with activities and events that will create a lifetime of new memories. There will be fun, food, and of course the opportunity to create FRIENDS and rekindle bonds with old ones. As the organizers of this convention, we assure you that we have taken proper measures for the safety and security of all convention participants.
We are extremely excited and motivated to bring the aspect of youth convention back, so that future generations of Knanaya youth will be given the chance to create the memories and regain the pride we hope participants will gain this time around! This event will only be possible if our vibrant Knanaya youth between the ages 18-25 come through and take part in this event. We want you all to be able to come and participate in the RETURN of youth convention… at the end of the day, you’re only KNA once (YOKO)!

KCYL Career Day- A Report (03/23/2013)
KCYL Career Day was a success on March 23, 20134 We had a variety of professionals from our very own Knanaya community coming out to talk to teens about the endless job opportunities there are for them. We had several careers that were presented. Linesh Madathiparambil presented Law, Dr. Tessy Kanjarapalli & Dr. Alina Kunnathikizhakethil for Medicine, Jenny Choottuvelil for Accounting, Raju Kanjarapalli for Engineering, Marilyn Pathiyil for Speech Pathology, Beena Indikuzhy and Jasmine Puthenpurayil for Nursing. More than 30 KCYL members came to our event and they said that it was a good experience. The young high school students were glad that their community had given them a chance to look out for their future possibilities. KCYL would like to thank the all the professionals that took their time out of their day to inform the young generations of out community about different careers. We also would like to thank the parents for encouraging their young teenagers to come to the event to explore their future careers. Thankyou!

KCYL Career Day - March 23rd, 2013 (Saturday)
Dear Parents and Youth,
KCYL will be hosting Career Day for students in high school, middle school students and for anyone else interested. This event is for your child to come out and learn about all the possible careers there are for him or her to think about.
There are many juniors and seniors still in high school who do not know which career they want to pursue, so please urge them to come out to KCYL's Career Day and let them explore their opportunities. We have a variety of careers to learn about - from nursing to engineering and to law! Professionals from our very own Knanaya community will be speaking on behalf of their own careers.
So let your child do some research on their future and encourage them to come to KCYL's Career Day on Saturday March 23, 2013 from 11am-3pm. It will be held at St.Marys Knanaya Catholic Church, 7800 W Lyons St, Morton Grove. Lunch will be provided.
Thank you

Game Night
Hello everyone,
As we all know and agree on the statement ‘Youth of today is the future of tomorrow’, as the young adults of this Knanaya Community and KCYL
representative, we believe it is important to guide the younger generation in the right direction, prepare them for the challenges they will soon face and
help them build relationship that will last a lifetime. With this is in mind, KCYL is conducting a game night for the entire youth community of KCS Chicago, especially for KCJL and KIDS CLUB CHICAGO on August 26, 2011 at the KCS Community Center from 5-10 pm. We will start the night with an icebreaker to get to know everyone and after that, we have a wide variety of fun games planned for the group. We ask our parents to encourage the younger kids to come to this program as it is an opportunity for them to meet the younger adults in our community and start building a relationship. We also ask our KCYL members and young adults to come and support us and become a great role model to our little brothers and sisters. There will be a $5 Entrance Fee. Food and refreshments will be served. Hope to see everyone next Friday, August 26, 2011 at 5pm at the KCS Community Center.
Sincerely
Tissy Vettikattil

KCYL Canned Food Drive and T-Shirt Design Contest
Hello everyone,
As the new Executive Board for KCYL, we ask our parents for your complete help and support as we start this journey. We ask you to please encourage your kids to come to KCYL events and participate. We are very excited to start our term and bring many activities, both social and service oriented to our youth. Our goal is to bring the Knanaya Youth of Chicago as one.
We plan to give our youth an opportunity to give back to their community through volunteer programs, get in touch with their spiritual side
through seminars and the best opportunity for them to build a strong relationship with their fellow Knanaya kids in the community and strengthen
their Knanaya tradition.
With that being said, KCYL along with the Chicago Youth Ministry will be hosting a Canned Food Drive on every Sunday till May 29th, 2011 at both, St.
Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Church, Morton Grove and Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Church, Maywood. Your donations would really help the Community Food bank and help feed those who are in need. Please join us as we fight to stop hunger in our community. Please contact Timmy
Idiyalil, Thomman Puthenpurayil or any KCYL Representative or the Youth Ministry Coordinators from either church if you have any questions.
T-Shirt Design Contest
Also, KCYL is planning on coming out with our own T-shirt this summer. Therefore, we are conducting a T-shirt design contest. Requirements are the design must include the words “KCYL CHICAGO” and have a design/slogan that represents our culture. Those who are interested and to be considered in the contest, your design must meet all the requirements and must be turned into a KCYL Representative no later than June 5th, 2011. Please contact any KCYL E-board members if you have any questions. The winner will be rewarded.
